Detail Itinerary

Day 01, Delhi:Today you will meet the Maharaja Express at Safdarjung railway station. After completing the formalities and a warm welcome in Indian tradition. You board the train which starts its journey to the Pink City of Jaipur. Dinner and overnight stay is arranged at the train.

Day 02, Jaipur: Today after breakfast you get down to visit the Amber Fort. You may ride on a painted and decorated elephant to the fort, which, located at the top of a hill, also provides a panoramic view of Jaipur. The lavishly designed entrances like the Hati Pol and palatial palaces, like the Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors). After lunch you may visit the 18th century observatory of Jantar Mantar. With the largest sundial of the world and astronomical instruments to see the stars with the naked eye, this observatory is a treasure. You may also visit the City Palace, a blend of European, Indian and Mughal architecture. While the museum of the palace stores royal belongings, antiques, coins and weapons, the lush greenery and statutes of the garden enhance the beauty of the palace. You can skip the sightseeing tour and enjoy a rejuvenating spa treatment at the Palace hotel or go for shopping the colourful boutique dresses, jewellery and leather shoes. Get complete taste of monarchical life with a round of golf at the Rambagh golf course. There is dinner and night stay at the train.

Day 03, Ranthambore / Fatehpur Sikri: Today morning you arrive at Sawai Madhopur. After an onboard breakfast you head towards Ranthambhore National Park. Known for its decent tiger population, this park is the best place to checkout Royal Bengal tigers. While leopards, hyenas and wild boars have this forest as natural habitat, the avian species of woodpeckers, kingfishers, ibis, pelicans and cuckoos break the quietness of the forest with tweets. After this thrilling safari, you board the train as it chugs off to Fatehpur Sikri. Lunch is arranged at the dining car of Maharaja Express. You step down at the first planned city of the Mughals, Fatehpur Sikri. The city is fascinating with all sandstone palaces and large private and public halls. Witness the lavish lifestyle of the emperors exploring the palaces, mosques and markets of this ghost city. You return to the train for dinner and night stay.

Day 04, Agra / Gwalior: Today the train reaches early morning at Agra. Your first visit is to the memorial of love, Taj Mahal. As the first sunrays kiss this white marble edifice, the celestial pink hue mesmerizes you. Explore the befitting beauty of Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World; studded with semi-precious stones and adorned with Arabic inscriptions and floral paintings. After this visit, you relish a champagne breakfast at Taj Khema. Next the train rolls on to your next destination, Gwalior. Lunch is onboard. At Gwalior, you may enjoy a sightseeing tour of the mighty Gwalior Fort, the ancient shrine with a unique name, Saas Bahu temple and the rare sculptures of the Jain temples. You may even opt for a refreshing spa treatment at the Palace hotel. Meet the local royals at the hi-tea party, arranged at the Jai Vilas Palace. There is another night stay along with dinner at the train.

Day 05, Khajuraho: Today after breakfast you step down at the land of amazing Indian architecture. Khajuraho is a group of temples with imbibing sculptures adorning the walls. There are three groups of temples here, which is almost 84 in count. While some of the temples contain Hindu deities, some are Jain temples. Life seems to frozen at the sculptures of the shrines; the carvings of love making couples, beautiful women, musicians, soldiers and devotees along with that of mythological figures exhibit the lifestyle of ancient India. After the excursion, you may rest and relax with a spa treatment at a premium hotel of Khajuraho. There is dinner and night stay at the train.

Day 06, Varanasi : Today you are at one of the oldest cities of the world, Varanasi. Your first visit is to the Silk Weaving centre. After checking out the real craft of making gorgeous silks you are taken to Vivsnta by Taj for a sumptuous lunch. after lunch you head towards Sarnath, where Lord Buddha preached his first sermon. after some blissful time at the monasteries you return to Varanasi to witness the glorious sunset sailing over the sacred waters of River Ganga. You also send some soulful moments witnessing the evening aarti; it is a fantastic experience as you witness devotees floating oil lamps on the enchanting waters praying for fulfilment of their wishes. There is dinner and overnight stay at the train.

Day 07, Lucknow : Another faced of India unravels as Maharaja Express enters the land of Nawabs, Lucknow. The Bada Imambara is actually a public assembly hall of the Lucknow rulers. It is considered the largest arched room in the world without any pillars. Your next visit is to the Rumi Darwaza, another impressive structure representing Awadhi architectural style. This 60 feet tall construction with carved flowers and a large lantern to lit it up is a wonder of India. After a cocktail lunch at the Taj Hotel, you may return to the train for some rest. Enjoy an entertaining ‘Indian evening’ here. Dinner and night stay at the train.

Day 08, Delhi : After breakfast onboard you bid goodbye to the staff of Maharaja Express and off-board the train.
